Sally's Black, Brown, & Queer on Film

  The movie, Mysterious Skin , starts with the different lives of two boys. The two seemingly unrelated people finally evoke a sad past. I watched the movie this week with a frown. I don't know if it's because of the difference in culture from mine. The work after Neil grew up as a teenager also made me feel a pity, and not to mention the things he was instigated to do when he was a child. The whole movie feels very depressing to me, I feel that Neil actually wants to escape from that kind of life. However, on the day he became a waiter, he still did the same thing as before. This is something I don't understand.     Until Neil came home from New York to meet Brian that I felt that this story was different from what I thought. I originally thought that the coach truly liked Neil, but after hearing Neil talk about what happened to them and Brian when they were young, I realized that this coach is a pervert.  This week's movie, Mosquita y Mari, tells the story between two girls' study and family. Yolanda's parents are really similar as some Asian parents, and they value their children's achievements very much. Just like in the movie, Yolanda asked her mother how her mother knew her father, and her mother was a little impatient and told her that studying is what she should pay attention to. Before seeing this part, I always thought this mother was a very good mother. But after this part, I realized that she was not as good as I thought.   Mari’s grades went from D at the beginning to 94% of the final exam. Really improved too much, which shows that these two girls will really achieve each other together. Yolanda helped Mari improve her grades and changed her mind. Mari helped Yolanda release her nature and relax appropriately during the learning process. What a beautiful time between them.  

 The movie signature move I watched this week is great for the transformation of these characters, but to be honest, these are not very deep, which means that it is too superficially. However, for the feeling of the whole movie, I watched it more relaxed and happy, because it contains the elements of comedy. This movie also includes the racial dimension. There may be religious views on LGBTQI. I think this movie might be a pretty good movie if it were placed ten years ago, but now it is a bit ordinary and it doesn't excite me. In recent years, the development of films has indeed been getting better and better. A film like this may not be able to excel.  For my perspective, I personally think that for movies with this kind of topic, we still need to learn more and study more in order to make a good work. Because my country has not legalized homosexuality, movies of this kind of topic are very sensitive. Therefore, in my impression, this type of film needs to have a deep meanin...

     This  is a very  delicate and touching story. An ordinary girl, a nagging mother, a steady father, a seemingly ordinary family, in fact, there are barriers. The father has a lover, the daughter is homosexual, and the mother's paranoid love makes them unable to breathe. Hearing her daughter personally say that I am gay, the mother's incomprehension and brutality have completely ripped her pain away. Mother represents part of society's views and oppressions of Alike, but she still loves her mother. Her identification with her identity makes me very happy. She chose a road she likes, although this road may be difficult, I admire her very much. "I am not running. I am choosing.”   There is also a saying that I like very much, I am your child and always will be. But I am not anyone's child, I am me. Everyone is a unique individual, while being a child of a parent, I am also myself.

 The film we watched this week Tangerine is a little bit like a documentary. Sometimes, I forget that this is a movie with a script. Sometimes I feel that this is the true story of those protagonists. Shooting only with iPhone5s in my opinion makes this movie more atmospheric, just like someone recording a vlog for them in the back.     When it comes to the content of the film, the overall impression I have after watching it is that marginalized people are no different from mainstream cultural groups, they also quarrel and fight. Sometimes people think that if marginalized groups are not accepted by mainstream culture, they should be silent, and they should disappear from the public's sight. This is obviously wrong, but there are really many people who have this idea.   In Paris Is Burning , the one that impressed me the most was Venus Xtravaganza. The murder of her made me deeply sorry. When I heard her voice for the first time, I felt that her voice was really gentle. There is a passage that I like very much, that is, she said that she wanted to be a well-known model in the fashion industry, and she thought about a lot of things. I was very excited to see that section, and I saw light in her eyes. However, her final death was something I never expected. This also reflects the ruthlessness and cruelty of society at that time.
